The ifrothgolf review
A 60 inch storm-proof golf umbrella from Galvin Green, the Swedish brand best known for serious foul-weather kit. It uses a double-layer vented canopy so wind passes through the gap instead of catching the whole surface, sits on an extra-strong but lightweight frame, and weighs in at 750 grams. The 100 percent nylon canopy carries a reflective coating and UPF 50 plus rating, so it doubles as proper sun cover, and it opens with an automatic push-button.
What's great
The vented twin canopy is the headline act and it genuinely works, staying put in gusts that flip standard single-layer umbrellas inside out. The frame feels overbuilt in the right way, the push-button opening is quick and satisfying one-handed, and the ergonomic handle fits most trolley umbrella holders. At 750 grams it is reassuringly solid without being a chore to carry, and the UPF 50 plus coating means it earns its place in summer as well as winter.
Worth knowing
It is expensive for an umbrella at around 75 pounds, and longevity is not bulletproof. In sustained testing under heavy wind a couple of the lower struts have been known to give way, so it is storm-resistant rather than truly storm-proof. The 60 inch span is also on the smaller side for a golf umbrella, so it shelters you well but will not fully cover a bag and a playing partner. Note the official line stocks black/silver and red/silver colourways; some UK specialist retailers have discontinued it, so the brand site is the most reliable place to buy.
The verdict
If you walk in real weather and are tired of replacing flimsy umbrellas every season, the Tromb is a smart buy: the vented canopy and stout frame handle wind far better than the price-bracket norm. Just go in clear-eyed that it is wind-resistant rather than indestructible, and that the compact 60 inch span trades some coverage for that stability.
